MISERY MUSIC VIDEO!

I don't know if everyone's seen it, I heard you can't see it in some places D: but I thought it was AMAZING! (like everything else Maroon 5 does of course ^_^)

It's sexy and exciting and funny! I like how everyone, well /almost/ everyone dies at the end xD

Adam's girlfriend didn't ruin the video - the director did that. His girlfriend only ruined the video for the Adam-obsessed living-in-a-dreamworld fans who are pissed that Adam has a girlfriend. You don't hear Adam bitching and whining because YOU (may) have boyfriends. Give it a rest! Be into his music, NOT his personal life because Adam sure as hell doesn't want any part of yours!

ok so i don't HATE the video but i think they could have done sooooo much better. The concept was interesting but not a new one. Chester French's "She Loves Everybody" uses the same concept in a much better and visually more convincing manner.

First, the stunt doubles....they could have used someone who was better matched to their body types. The guy they used most resembled matt...and matt didn't even NEED a double as his "death" was cgi.

Second, the performances were poorly acted on all their parts. Jesse had the most convincing performance but again...the poorly matched double ruined the illusion. The acting was too over the top. I realize its a tongue and cheek concept but the situations were enough satire that the overacting was not necessary. Anne's performance was half assed. it was too evident that she was pulling back on her punches. I think a bit of rehearsal time would have done her a world of good. Although, it was fun to see adam being abused. ;)

Third, the editing was horrid. The back and forth between situations (ie. beating adam in the storage alley, running him down, back to the storage alley, back to the street in front of the cafe, to the rooftop) gave it a very disjointed feeling. the cutaways to the band performing only added to the lack of flow.

I think that this idea held a lot of promise for a visually and conceptually interesting video...it just fell short on many levels.

I think i would have performed a straight performance video rather than a poorly directed/edited concept video.

i actually really loved the idea and i like the metaphorical aspect of it, it just didn't deliver what it promised.

i do however like the song. :) I'm kinda dreading the "give a little more" video now. I believe it was shot at the same time by the same director...am i right? I hope it gives us all a little more satisfaction.

ok...have at....i know this is not a popular opinion...but it IS an opinion.

Me. I don't give a flying squirrel who he dates. Many of us actually find him to be unattractive (GASP!!).

You seem to be one of the normal ones, though, so you're not who I was referring to. I like what you said about the video.

There are some people who are just plain nasty and rag on the video simply because of some delusion that Adam knows who they are, which is actually true in some instances, in that he knows they are psychotic.

Maybe (ok, definitely) this is not the proper forum for my anti-stalker rant, but I know they lurk here.

wow. there's a LOT of negativity about this video. well i liked it at least. of course im jealous of anne and everything (umm, who isnt?) but i think its nice 4 her 2 be the girl in the video. however, the stunts were cheesy at times. and i'm thinking its mostly anne's fault, adam seemed 2 be trying hard enough 2 get the timing and everything right, but she didn't put any force or meaning into most of it.
and about adam being the center of attention more in this video than the others, has anyone had the thought that maybe the rest of the band didn't really care about being in it much? after all, they have said many times that theyre glad they have adam cuz they don't enjoy the spotlight much and adam obviously does. if the band's happy with the way the video turned out, and not bitter about it, then shouldnt we be, too? i love the boys 2 death of course, but if they dont care 2 be in a video, im not going 2 force them 2 be in it a lot.
but overall, i love the video. i like that its different from other videos out there that just show a band performing the song, because you can see them perform a song in various live performances. this video tells a story and is interesting to watch. its not a bunch of cheesy dancing, its fun to watch and i enjoyed it. im glad the guys had fun with it and im glad its creative.
also, i hope some of you realize that its not intended as a joke about abusive relationships. like adam said, its about violence in general. they've used the concept of sex a lot in their videos and now theyre trying out the concept of violence. and its about a the woman being the dominant one in the relationship, which i think is a cool idea for a music video to explore
other than some of the stunts (and the fact that adam was wearing clothes, but wutevs haha), i have no complaints about the video. it was humorous and entertaining. plus u can tell that adam had fun with it, which makes me happy=)

I was a teenager in the 80's, so I did like music videos then. But since then MTV kinda got rid of music videos I do not watch them anymore. I like listening to music while exercising, driving, cleaning, etc. I rather would like to see a documentary or interviews with Maroon 5.

Maroon 5’s new “Misery” video is a gleefully over-the-top affair, full of cartoonish, wanton violence, nifty stunt work and special effects, and a whole lot of good-natured wink-wink-ery. It is satisfying on many levels, particularly if you’re interested in seeing frontman Adam Levine beaten to a pulp, menaced by rocket launchers and tossed off a building into oncoming traffic.

And really, that’s the whole joke here. See, there’s plenty of folks out there who’d like to see Levine suffer some kind of bodily harm. After all, he’s supremely handsome and cocksure. He gets all the girls. He has sold millions of albums. You can’t blame folks for thinking that, on some level, he surely has this coming.

So, in “Misery” — directed by Joseph Kahn, who’s made videos for the 50s, Ems and Britneys of the world — the masses get their wish. Levine is subject to all manner of brutality, dished out by a blonde beauty who’s looking for (presumed) revenge. He is menaced, pummeled, pushed, pulled and very nearly blown up. He is thrown from rooftops, his fall cushioned only by the crumpled hood of a car. It’s telling, however, that he suffers nary a scratch. Instead, it’s his bandmates who are the victims, catching knives in the back, bouncing off speeding cars and exploding on street corners … all of these fates, of course, meant for Levine.

And that’s where the humor lies. Because “Misery” is a pretty sly comment on the nature of the good-looking frontman, the rock god, the one who gets the lion’s share of the attention. Turns out, he’s indestructible … though many are out to injure him, and no matter how many messes he makes, it’s the other guys who ultimately end up getting hurt, and, really, no one notices when they do. Of course, to hear Levine tell it, the video is also about “the sexual energy between two people,” and maybe it is, but I’d prefer to give Levine, Kahn and the rest of M5 a bit of credit for poking fun at archetypes, for being smart and even a bit understated. As understated as a video with explosions and blood and car crashes and beautiful people can be, of course.

As a woman who has suffered both personal domestic violence and dated a man who was also physically abused I am not to amused about the concept of this video however poppy and dancy the background track is! In fact it offends me to the core (but that is my personal experience noted some comments on youtube to lighten up at this bit of fun that was obv not shot in a serious manner) again just my feelings on it; as someone wise said to me: hilarious that that could be some woman's monday morning and they make light hearted fun of it!

Plus lovely video by Maroon 1 + guest, where are the other 4?! I thought there was a band once upon a time or was I mistaken?

I agree they could have had a different way of killing each member at least for the nano second we saw them "die".

I basically sat there and laughed my ass off at the wonderful (insert dripping sarcasm voice here) stunt work by both Adam and Anne, bravo, needed a good side splitter :-D

Original concept I grant you, not much out there like it at the moment. But I am amazed they haven't been bashed by some anti-violence charity yet...time will tell.

I like the video. However, my only criticism is that they could have had more methods of "offing" the band members instead of just running them all over with a car. I know that sounds nuts but if you are going to do it, be creative. I mean you could have pushed one over a building, electrocute or poison them (like it was done in telephone)

I saw it, didn't LOVE it, but didn't HATE it. Felt like a less cool Wake Up Call. Just very repetitive. They are absolutely capable of better work.

It only sucks, no real maroon 5 fan should like this poor video, but i think all the "newer" maroon 5 fans and not those from the older days will like it, but maybe im wrong, dont know. i hate it, but i love htb video, i think that says everything ...
