Is The Cover Photo On The New CD The Actual Cover?

Well, most of us have seen the supposed the cover of the new CD. A totally naked woman on her knees in bed, obviously having a good time with her own hands and another set of hands.

If this is the actual cover, what do you think? If you're a parent with a young daughter, what do you think? If you're a teen, what do you think? If age is no reference point, then as a Maroon 5 fan, what do you HONESTLY think of this as a cover? Keep in mind that since it's inception, the band has always prided themselves in being supportive of womens' rights, etc. Is this really supporting womens' overall rights or just our right to appear naked on an album cover?

Re: Is The Cover Photo On The New CD The Actual Cover?

I am not so much disappointed but now apathetic to the whole idea of this new album...

I mean
1) could it be more obvious
2) yeah the arms look kinda weird
3) sex and nudity is so damn generic and common now I wanted them to break the mould and do something original...everyone seems to be naked these days
4) I agree they could have been a little more creative, even a better shot version would have been better...

Oh well let's hope the music is good. I reserve my comments for the pro domestic violence video to another post/thread/day coz I can't imagine anyone wants my true two cents on that one...

Re: Is The Cover Photo On The New CD The Actual Cover?

I just think the cover is unoriginal. I knew when they announced the name of the album that probably the artwork would be a chick with hands all over her. That being said, I do think the idea could have been better executed! Like a girl with each set of the guys hands on her and the fans being able to tell whose hands are whose. The band is made up of 5 guys that surely can bring more to the table than this! I mean this band is made up of intelligent, cultured, artistic, talented, creative men! I'm a bit perplexed that they would look at THAT cover and go, "YES, that's exactly what I was looking for to represent this album for all eternity!"

BTW, What's with the arms? Are they all hers? Why are there 3 on one side and one on the other? Why is the opposite shoulder and arm manly looking then? If they are supposed to be someone elses around her, then why is the bottom one upside down?

I really hope someone that gets the opportunity to interview them, will actually ask some of these questions instead of the same old ones we've heard and they've answered a gazillion times!

I think the cover is okay... I jsut don't think I'm quite used to it yet.
I think I'm not so sure about it yet because this cover is just so different to SAJ and IWBSBL - usually bands keep the same sort of "theme" per say to each album cover but with Maroon 5 each one has been very individual.

Personally, I think more people might pick up the album and give it a look because it stands out, and it doesn't typically look like a Maroon 5 album - who knows, they might even give the album a go and become a fan.

Re: Is The Cover Photo On The New CD The Actual Cover?

As much as I loooove Maroon 5, I must say I'm disappointed. I don't think it's degrading or something, it's just totally lacking of creativity. I wonder why it's not like Adam and his girlfriend on the cover, that's totally unrelated to the band. I don't like it cause it's Maroon 5's. It would have been someone else I could have liked it.

It reminds me, in a way, of the cover of Robin Thicke's dreamworld, but Thicke's cover is better.

I've been looking for this. THIS is what it reminds me of.

Really guys? Whitesnake? What decade is this?

Re: Is The Cover Photo On The New CD The Actual Cover?

Maybe part of my problem is that I know that I'm going to have to explain it to my son. We once passed a billboard for a strip club and the chick was just wearing stilettos with her butt in the air. My son asked me why she was just wearing shoes and if it was so she could walk around and "show everyone her tushy." But this album cover...I'd better start thinking of something.

Re: Is The Cover Photo On The New CD The Actual Cover?

Well, honestly, I don't know what to think about this. I really just don't know yet.

I just have a weird time imagining myself going to our local CD store and getting weird looks from people seeing what I'm actually about to buy. Oh well, there's still time before the album drops, so let's just hope they re-think the choice for their album cover...

But...do you guys really think this is the actual cover? Like, the Misery cover has that sort of comic-ish style so why would they choose a different style for the album?

EDIT: ooookay, it seems to be the actual cover, otherwise they would not show it at their official band homepage...

Re: Is The Cover Photo On The New CD The Actual Cover?

As one of M5's bigger male fans I thought I'd weigh my 2 cents.

Overall I'm very disappointed in the choice of cover. I didn't necessarily mind the video (though it got very repetitive and the violence was almost comically fake), but it wasn't as awful as people were saying. This cover is a completely different story.

To me, it feels like the Songs About Jane cover, only with real people, and to incorporate the title, they threw a bunch of hands on the woman instead of snake-hair. NOW, I never let the SAJ cover influence what I thought about M5.

With IWBSBL, I was actually really impressed by the cover. Simple, yet so complex. It still remains one of my favorite covers.

I don't know if I necessarily find this DEGRADING per se, but I certainly have a problem with it. I would NEVER want my kids buying this let alone SEEING it in stores. Maroon 5 has been (insert adjective here) to have their 2 albums go without Parental Advisory logos, which is seemingly bad enough. But I think this is just tasteless. Like you guys said, I understand sex sells, but I really expected more from a band who have been my idols since I was in middle school.

I remain super hopeful though, by reminding myself that even though i don't like it, it's not about the cover, it's about the music.

I, too, would have preferred a photo of the guys, but I don't think this cover indicates selling out or "moral turpitude," to borrow an outdated term.

My only real complaint is the tacky headboard in the background...
Didn't mean for it to seem like outrage, believe me, I enjoy sex just as much as the next person (maybe more than some, who knows?), but it's more of feeling disappointed that there is less opportunity for the album to be judged on it's musical merits when it's being sold like this.

Heck, I've bought albums because I liked the covers specifically, such as 'Love, Devotion and Surrender' by
John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana or 'The Roaring Silence' by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. I sure as hell wouldn't buy this one just because of the cover.

These are just initial opinions from some fans here. Glad we are able to express them. Maybe we'll all be doing turnarounds when we actually get to HEAR the music. ;)

What do you think, Donna?

I'm not against the cover (or the video) at all, I just find it odd/weird to wake up to this, literally, and well it's odd/weird in general as well with the two sets of arms thing... Eh, go figure. o.o

I just feel like they took the cheap way out. I understand that sex sells, but they're not some bad 1980's hair band. They don't need this to market themselves. They were (I thought) above that.

BTW, I like the use of moral turpitude. I haven't heard that in a while. Good one! :-)

I completely agree. As long as the music makes up for the bad marketing, I'll stick around. If not, see y'all.

I think it's funny that they have a special tie-in with Walmart and there's no way Walmart is putting this on its shelves.

Personally, I hate it. I understand their music is all sexual. I get that. But this is insulting. No, I don't find it sexy. I find it demeaning and completely lacking in creativity. Their music sells itself. No need to stoop this low.
